Call for Papers: Special Issue “Beyond sexism and ageism: searching for new narratives on aging women”

The Journal of Women & Aging is seeking papers for a special issue about new narratives on aging with articles that challenge dominant and overtly negative images of ageing and old age created at the intersection of ageism and sexism. The particular focus is on new ways of approaching aging and older women who are at the greatest risk of experiencing discrimination and adversity in their daily lives. Articles that offer new perspectives and social images created outside and against ageist and sexist stereotypes are invited.

This special issue is planned for a Spring 2026 volume of the journal.

Selected manuscripts will undergo Editorial review and eventual peer review by the JWA editors and peer referees. The first step in the review process will be submission of a 500-word abstract in APA style to the guest editors Professor Monika Allgurin, Satu Heikkinen, PhD and Professor Isabella Paoletti via email at monika.allgurin@ju.se . Authors will find out by May 25, 2025 if they will be asked for a full manuscript.
